As a result of the merger between City South and East Launceston, on the 24th May 1986 the first ever South Launceston side stepped onto the field in the NTFA. Their opponents were George Town and the game was played at Bluegum Park. Whilst in the game for most of the day unfortunately the result didn't got he way of the newly formed club with George Town winning 20.18.138 to 12.10.82. A week later the first South Launceston team in the TFL made their appearance.
