Bart McCulloch returns home to South Launceston

The South Launceston Football Club has pulled off its major player signing under new Coach Mitch Thorp, by securing the services of former Brisbane Lion recruit Bart McCulloch.

The classy centre half forward/ ruckman was drafted by the Lions in the 2008, but unfortunately long term injuries denied the Tasmanian of playing an AFL game.

The 21 year old looking forward to playing back at his old club, unless he is taken in the next AFL draft. McCulloch said “at 21 obviously I still have a dream to play AFL football but it’s a slight chance at best, so I will play for the Bulldogs unless some miracle happens and I am snapped up in the draft”.

He added “I never thought about playing for anyone else in Tassie at all, I played junior football here and I want to play for the Bulldogs again, I am looking forward to it, I think the club is heading in the right direction”.

Bulldogs Coach Mitch Thorp delighted to have the big man back at the Youngtown Oval.

Thorp said “Bart is physically a giant and a player who has a thirst for putting in the hard yards at training and his conditioning role at the club will see many of our 18-21 year olds put on some significant size”.

The Coach also full of praise for how McCulloch conducted himself throughout the entire campaign to get him back in South Launceston colours.

He said “Bart has been terrific to deal with and he sees the club as a place to not only challenge himself but to also provide expert guidance to our young developing senior players, I think it’s a big win for us”.

He added “Our list is coming together nicely and we will be announcing some other key recruits in the coming weeks”.
