2008 Juniors Registration Day

The year that was,

South Launceston Junior Football Club is setting the pace for other clubs to follow.

Whilst other clubs believe they are successful with there juniors teams, we believe that South Launceston are the obvious leaders.

Under 9’s and Under 11’s

The under 9s and 11s players are taught the Bulldog values from the very start of their careers at the club.  These values include commitment, fairness and honesty, they set the standard for when these players move onto the next level of their careers.

Under 12s 2007

The Under 12 Coach, Scott Piper started the year in under difficult circumstances, being faced with a playing group of 37.  There were discussions prior to the start of the season of playing 2 teams if possible. This could not be achieved, so Scott faced the daunting task of rotating 37 players each week throughout the season.   The South Launceston Junior Football Club commends Scott for a fantastic effort.  He handled the predicament that was placed upon him with grace and achieved great results and respect from his players.

The team finished 3rd on the NTJFA ladder and with some great coaching by Scott, they went on to win the under 12’s 2007 NTJFA Grand Final.  We could not have asked for anymore from these players and their Coach, well done.

Under 13s 2007

The Under 13’s were once again coached by Glenn Turner in the 2007 season.  Glen is a well respected coach around the South Launceston Football Club. His team had a fantastic year in 2007; they finished on top of the ladder and made it to the NTJFA Grand Final, but were unfortunately beaten on the day.

The club know they will have a fantastic year in 2008.  Great effort guys.

Under 14s

Already carrying 2 NTJFA Grand Finals to their name and with Brad Chapman at the helm, was there really any doubt they would do well in the 2007 season. Congratulations to Brad on they way he has gone about his coaching role in the past, he has gained the respect of players and his peers at the club and  the South Launceston Football Club would like to take this opportunity to thank Brad for all his efforts and wish him well in the future.

The Under 14’s finished 2nd on the NTJFA ladder and went on to win the grand Final.   Well done to Brad and his team.

Under 15s

Coached by Andrew Keegan and playing in the under 16s competition, you would think this team would have struggled, but no not our bulldogs. With guts and determination they finished 5th on the NTJFA ladder in 2007 and with Luke Tepper barking instructions from the back line went on to play in the first elimination final, going down by a mere 4 points in a hard fought battle. Well done boys, may 2008 be your season.

Under 16s

“Jars Boys” as they were known, finished 2nd on the NTJFA ladder and unfortunately were defeated in the qualifying final, they travelled to Scottsdale to be beaten by Georgetown by 1 point.  This was a team of very talented players, many of them having played together since Under 11’s with South Launceston.  They have had much success as a team through their junior playing careers and we wish them well now they move of to senior ranks, hopefully with the South Launceston Football Club.  We also thank Graeme Jarman for his vitality and skill as a coach, the excellent way he coached this team and the success that he helped deliver to them during their junior playing years.

So looking back at the season that was 2007 season, we are 2nd to none.

Paul Etchell,

Junior Director

South Launceston Junior Football Club
